As mentioned at the KWG meeting, the ICDR has appointed a new Academic
Director.  Please read the following announcement.

On behalf of the Rehabilitation Sciences Sector and the International
Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation (ICDR), we are pleased to
announce the appointment of Stephanie Nixon, PhD as Academic Director
of the International Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation for a 3
year term beginning March 1, 2009.



As the first Academic Director of ICDR, Dr. Nixon’s responsibilities
will focus on advancing the scholarly agenda of the Centre.
Specifically, she will:

·         lead a research agenda that will provide sustainable
resources for the Centre;

·         establish relevant and productive collaborations within and
outside of the University of Toronto community;

·         increase the academic opportunities for doctoral stream
students in the Rehabilitation Sciences Sector.



Dr Nixon is well qualified to undertake this challenge. She is
currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy
at the University of Toronto. She earned her PhD in Public Health
Sciences and the Collaborative Program in Bioethics in 2005 and
completed a Post – Doctorate in Health Economics and HIV/AIDS Research
at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban South Africa. Stephanie
is currently a research Associate of the University of KwaZulu.



Dr. Nixon has participated in and provided leadership for a large
array of publications, conference presentations and research projects
with global implications. She is a recognized leader in the area of
HIV and AIDS with a particular interest on the intersection of HIV
with rehabilitation.



The addition of Dr. Nixon to the core team at ICDR will enhance its
role in fulfilling its mission relative to disability and
rehabilitation globally.
